Willkommen

Welcome to the page of the Sturm-Bataillon Nr.5(Rohr) reenactment group of the Great War Association.  We are a group of dedicated World War 1 enthusiasts that portray the 2d Kompanie of Germany's premier Assault Battalion during the 1st World War through Living History events at a 76+ acre recreated WW1 Trench system.

The Sturm-Btl Nr. 5 (Rohr) through the GWA in Newville, PA, is committed to preserving the past through World War 1 reenactments.  Twice a year, in April and November we participate in reenacting the 1st World War in a 76+ acre private battlefield that is an extensive trench network with 500-1000 participants making up both Allied and Central Powers in 1918.  By staging these reenactments, the group can get a glimpse into the experiences of soldiers and during that tumultuous period. The group utilizes accurate period reproduction uniforms, weapons, and other props to create a detailed experience for the members. These reenactments allow future generations to connect with and understand the struggles and sacrifices made by those who lived through WW1. Through this organization, the past is brought to life and honored in a unique way that both educates and entertains the participants.

Starting in 1976, Our unit, 2nd Kompanie, is a tightly-knit and industrious group that values  professionalism, diligence, and enjoyment. We expect all members to  uphold these standards and actively contribute to the unit's success,  rather than just being passive participants. As one of the most  experienced units on the German side, we prioritize both appearance and  behavior. This means that we have a strict vetting process and  probationary period of one year or two events, during which the unit  votes on new members. However, this is just a method to ensure that we  have an enthusiastic and committed team. We work diligently and engage  in "kameradschaft", such as having a beer and telling jokes, to  unwind after a hard day.

Get Involved

Although it may seem like a rigorous process, it's actually a method  aimed at guaranteeing that we acquire individuals who are passionate and  committed to our unit. As a team, we exert a lot of effort while also  having fun together. If you think this sounds  like a good fit for you, please don't hesitate to contact us, and we'll  assist you in preparing your Kit.

The general load out we carry.  Being that we have an extensive bunker space we often do not need greatcoats or the zelt pins and rope or any cold weather gear, except for maybe long johns in November.  Being that we do our events at Newville, the terrain is harsh.  There is a lot of shale and it beats up gear and uniforms.  We also make some concession on authenticity because some items are just
